Fear according to Webster's New College Dictionary is defined as "an unpleasant often strong emotion caused by anticipation or awareness of danger. Just reading this definition can make you feel just a little uncomfortable. Yes, fear is the number one motivator of this age. So what are we so afraid of anyway? Failure. Not being accepted. Being taken advantage of. Missing an opportunity. Physical ailments. And these are only just a few of the reasons why we are so afraid. What about the new millennium? Fear is running rampage. Emotions are the key to creating a reaction in the minds of people. If you are marketing online your number one job is to trigger a reaction in the mind of your prospect. This reaction will prompt a response to your offer. So, why not take advantage of the most potent motivator of all...FEAR. Fear can cut through the layers of fat around your prospect's brain. Jabbing and needling until his emotions drives him to picking up the phone, grabbing his credit card or licking on your link in order to relieve him of his built up frustrations caused by the fear that you just laid on him. So does it work? You bet it does! Use it in your ads, sales letters and webpage content. Here are three great areas that you can focus on the next time you sit down to create a sales promotion.
Just think about it for a moment. I am sure that you have felt one of the above fear emotions since you've been involved with the Internet. We all have. Incorporate those feelings in your ads, sales letters and web page content. Design your content to make the readers feel that maybe they are "missing a great opportunity" or "have been taken advantage of" or "will not be accepted" if they do not respond to your offer.
Reinforce the fear approach by stating strong reasons why they should be concerned about the FEAR you have made them aware of. Once you've made your point, then relieve their fears by showing them how the benefits (that's emotional benefits) of your offer can completely solve their problem and wipe out the fear that concerns them. And guess what? They will be relieved and happy to response to your request!
