Did you know that 75% of buying decisions are based on ad copy headlines. That's why you should spend 75% of your time creating, testing and tweaking your ad copy headlines. It just makes good sense.

Headlines are so important that you could spend hours just learning all the critical aspects that make headlines effective. However, for this article we'll just talk about the importance of targeting your headlines to specific individuals.

Let's say that you place your ad headline in an ezine that has a subscriber base of 5000. A great headline will reach out and entice someone in your specific audience to stand up and raise their hand. If you can get 5% of the subscriber base to raise their hands, then you will get 250 responses to your ad copy.

In other words, you need to target these 250 subscribers in your headline. Let's take a women's health ezine for example. Here you might have 5000 individuals from all age groups, nationalities and health conditions. Your first job is to determine exactly which individuals in this group you want to target with your headline.

Let's use a headline example to show three different possibilities for targeting this group.

Base Headline Example:

"The Ugly Truth About Your Health"

This headline is broad and does not target any specific individual.

"The Ugly Truth About Teen Health"

This headline targets the age group of the subscriber group and more specifically ages under 20 years old.

"The Ugly Truth About Women Who Smoke"

This headline targets women who smoke which could account for about 40% of the subscribers based on today's statistic on smoking.

"The Ugly Truth About Women With Dark Completions"

This headline targets the group with dark completions. Here you are targeting specific nationalities.

Tip: You could contact the editor of the ezine that you will be placing your ad and ask for demographics on each group to determine which group has the highest number of subscribers.

Targeting your headlines to a specific individual in a group can make your ads reach out and touch the right people. The more specific you are with your headline, the better the response will be. And getting responses from a targeted group will translate into sky high sales conversion rates.

Bottom line, you will make more money online.
